Finally... the perfect ungimmicked (but custom modified) coin pail to perform the "Miser's Dream" is now available!
J C Sum has been performing the "Miser's Dream" for more than 15 years and for years was using a "Ring & Things" coin pail, which has long been unavailable since the company closed down. From the start, J C has searched for the 'perfect' coin pail, experimented with dozens of pails, buckets and containers but none worked well.
The difficulty in finding a suitable "Miser's Dream" coin pail is to find one that looks good and is the right weight. All the aluminum manufactured ones look cheap, fake and do not even look like champagne buckets, which is what they were supposed to be. Real champagne buckets are way too heavy and small ones are just too small. Some custom-made coin pails cost hundreds of dollars and do not meet all of J C's requirements for a good coin pail.
Here are J C's personal criteria for a "Miser's Dream" coin pail:
1) It should look like a classy Champagne Bucket, not a tall cannister-looking tin or container that looks like it is designed to hold utensils. Hence, the mouth of the pail should be wider than the base. Good coin pails for the "Miser's Dream" should also not be too wide at the mouth, to protect from audience angles looking down into the pail while you perform.
2) The weight is critical. If the pail is too heavy, it will be near impossible to perform the "Miser's Dream" well technically. You will not be able to execute the necessary moves smoothly and you will not be able to handle many coins.
3) The pail must 'ring' loudly when a coin is dropped inside. This means the material, thickness of material, size and shape of the pail all factor into the quality and loudness of the 'ring'.
4) Not so much a technical requirement, but important nevertheless - priced below $100.
No single pail on the market has ALL the above qualities.
Until now...
We have found a manufacturer who can turn the right-sized pail out of stainless steel in limited quantities. The grade of the steel and thickness makes it perfect to handle the classic "Miser's Dream" moves.
There is a 1/4" lip which aids in a better grip for the "Miser's Dream" handling. The lip also makes it easier for adjustments to your load, if necessary, during performance. This is especially important when you are using a large number of coins e.g. 20 or more.
Each pail is then custom-modified to reduce weight even more. While an excellent weight, the pail itself is very sturdy and will not dent easily. This pail has the loudest and most resounding 'ring' than any other pail on the market,
The "Perfect Coin Pail" is polished spun stainless steel and measures 7 1/2" (diameter of mouth) x 8 1/4" (height); 5" (diameter of base) and weighs just 1 1/4 lbs.
